Bird Species (Article 12, Directive 2009/147/ΕΚ)

Bird Species (Article 12, Directive 2009/147/ΕΚ)

Article 12 of Directive 2009/147/EC on the Conservation of Wild Birds (formerly Directive 79/409/EEC) requires Member States to submit triennial reports on its implementation. Since 2008, the reporting cycle has been extended to six years and aligned with the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC). The competent authority for submitting the reports is the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEEN).

The reports are submitted to the Central Data Repository of the European Environment Agency and include a General report, which concerns the legal transposition of the Directive and the implementation of conservation measures, and a section that contains data (factsheets and maps) on population status, trends, distribution, threats, etc.

Below are Greece’s national reports on the implementation of Article 12 of the Birds Directive for the respective monitoring periods:

The European Commission evaluates the reports on the status of birds in the EU and publishes the results in the report “State of Nature in the EU.”
