The Website on Nature and Biodiversity serves as a portal for providing and disseminating data and information on nature and biodiversity in Greece. It incorporates the following open-access services:
- The Digital Repository of NMNHG-EKBY, which provides access to research findings, publications, and projects. The Repository is interoperable with the “Unified Catalogue of Digital Cultural Heritage” and the “Secure Preservation of Digital Cultural Resources” services of the National Documentation Centre, as well as with the European digital library EUROPEANA.
- The Web Map of Nature and Biodiversity, the Geographic Repository and the Geospatial Data Catalogue of NMNHG-EKBY, which provide access to geospatial data and metadata in compliance with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and the EU INSPIRE Directive specifications.
The first version of the website was developed in 2014 in the frame of the project «Development of a Website for Disseminating Information on Nature and Biodiversity in Greece» of the Operational Program “Digital Convergence” (2007–2013), which was implemented by the Goulandris Museum of Natural History / Greek Biotope-Wetland Centre, and funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, with co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund.
The upgrade of the website and the other open-access services of NMNHG -EKBY were carried out in 2026 with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility as part of the project «Grant to the Goulandris Museum of Natural History for the implementation of the project “SUB2c. Creation of a National Museum of Natural History”» under Action ID “16851 – The protection of biodiversity as a driving force for sustainable development” (MIS TA 5221047).
